Why I Stopped Buying My Berberine from Amazon
I’m sorry the title is so click-baity but hear me out for a second. I recently switched to Ovafit Berberine and in this post I will be explaining why I made the switch.
Let’s talk about berberine.
Yep, that golden supplement that’s all over TikTok and health blogs. Supposed to help with blood sugar, insulin resistance, PCOS, cravings, all of it.
And for a while, I was all in. I bought my berberine from whatever brand looked decent on Amazon. Clean label? Check. Good reviews? Check. Cheap price? Double check.
What I didn’t realize was… I was playing myself.

The Reality Check
I came across a report by NOW Foods, a company known for being super transparent. They tested a bunch of berberine supplements sold on Amazon and found something seriously sketchy. Some of those bottles had just 2% of the amount of berberine listed on the label.
Two. Percent.
Imagine taking your daily dose and thinking you’re doing everything right—only to find out your supplement is basically dust in a capsule.
So I kept digging. Turns out, this isn’t rare. Studies have shown that over half of the berberine supplements on the market fail quality tests. Some are underdosed. Some are fake. And some don’t even contain natural berberine.
It blew my mind.
I was trusting these random brands with my hormone health. My blood sugar. My energy. And they were cutting corners just to make a buck.
How It Can Affect You
If you’re taking berberine to manage PCOS or balance your blood sugar, quality matters. Big time.
Because if you’re using a weak or fake version, here’s what could happen:
- Your blood sugar stays all over the place.
- You feel hungrier. Crankier. Moodier.
- Your cravings won’t quit.
- Your period’s still missing in action.
- You start questioning everything. Is it your diet? Your stress? Something you’re doing wrong?
Nope. Sometimes, it’s just the supplement that’s not doing its job.
That was the moment I realized: it’s not just about buying a supplement. It’s about buying the right one.
What I Use Now
So I changed things up. I said goodbye to sketchy brands and started being really picky about what I put in my body.
Now, my go-to is Ovafit Berberine.
Why? A few reasons. First off, it’s formulated specifically for women with PCOS, which is a game changer. It’s also third-party tested, so I know I’m actually getting what the label says. No fluff. No fillers. Just clean, potent berberine that my body can actually use.

Also, I love that Ovafit was created by women who get the hormonal rollercoaster. Their branding is super cute (which honestly makes me want to stick to it), and their customer service? So kind. Real people, real answers.

If Ovafit ever sold out and I needed a solid backup, I’d trust a few others too:
Thorne
Thorne is one of those brands you’ll see in actual doctor’s offices. They’re serious about clinical-grade quality. Their berberine is super absorbable, and they don’t mess around with unverified claims. It’s a little more expensive, but totally worth it.

- Optimal Wellness: Berberine provides immune function support and promotes a healthy respiratory tract*
- GI Support: Supports beneficial bacterial balance in the gut and helps to maintain a healthy microbiome*

NOW Foods
Honestly, I respect the heck out of NOW. They’re not just testing their own products plus they’re out here testing their competitors too. That’s next-level accountability. Their berberine is reliable, no drama, no surprises.
- SUPPORTS GLUCOSE METABOLISM*: Berberine is a natural constituent of herbs such as goldenseal, Oregon grape, and barberry
- HELPS TO SUPPORT: Already normal glucose and lipid metabolism*
- WITH MCT OIL: Because berberine is known for its limited bioavailability, this product includes caprate (C10, a medium-c…

What I’ve Learned
I used to think all supplements were created equal.
Spoiler: they’re not.
Just because something is cheap and has a five-star review on Amazon doesn’t mean it’s the real deal. A lot of those reviews are paid or fake. And a lot of those brands are just… not great.
So now, I spend a little more. But I sleep better knowing my supplements are actually helping me—not just wasting my time (and money).
If you’re taking berberine to support your PCOS, lower your blood sugar, or feel more like yourself again… please be picky.
Read labels. Look for brands that test their stuff. Skip the mystery bottles.
Your body does too much for you to feed it junk.
